Paxil V is a Federation colony rich in ####, and conquered by the Dominion early in the war. While elements of the 15th Fleet drive off Dominion ships, their ground forces are dug in and still control most of the planet. A guerrilla war begins as United Federation Marines land.
After two runabouts carrying critical personnel are destroyed in orbit, Fleet Admiral Pritol loses confidence in Brigadier General Thefin, the 7th Marine Expeditionary Brigade's Commanding Officer. He sends for a former member of his crew, Gedna Tachion, with Seff O'Rourke tagging along, to help in the combat operations.
