By 2370 he was weapons and sensor officer aboard a reconnaissance fighter, along with Peter Madison.
During a classified mission to scout possible Cardassian build up inside of the newly formed Demilitarized Zone, he activated Madison's ejection unit and stranded him on a nearby planet. After that, he took the fighter and joined the Maquis.
