The USS Melbourne was a Nebulas class Heavy Cruiser undergoing final construction at Utopia Planitia in 2366.
Captain Thomas Halloway was the supervising officer of her construction.
Lieutenant Commander Miranda Garrett-Tachion oversaw work on the vessel's science systems.
With only three months until its launch date, the Melbourne was launched early to join a task force to a stop a Borg Cube at what would become known as The Battle of Wolf 359. Halloway assumed command, with Garrett-Tachion as his XO. The ship was lost with all hands during the battle.
The vessel was preceded by an Excelsior class Melbourne, which was also at Wolf 359 that day and lost as well.
