The USS Mowe was anAmbassador class heavy cruiser serving in Starfleet during the 24th century.
Launched from Utopia Planitia in 2337, the Mowe began a long, prestigious career along the Cardassian border.
When she emerged in early 2360 she was outfitted for extended deep space exploration under the command of Captain George Foster. Shortly thereafter she began a ten-year deep space exploration, the longest in Starfleet history up to that point. During the mission the Mowe encountered and established relations with several new species, fought minor skirmishes with Cardassian forces, charted and explored dozens of star systems, greatly expanded the network of subspace communications relays and gathered substantial data to keep analysts busy for decades.
In 2365 she was close enough to Federation space for the USS Miwok to rendezvous with the ship for crew rotation and resupply. She also offloaded a prototype runabout being considered for the Danube class. A five-person S.C.E. team were part of the new crew.
The Mowe was so far out of communications range that her crew learned of the Borg Incursion of 2366 seven months after the incident.
The Mowe returned to Federation space in 2370, stopping at Starbase 365 for refueling before heading to McKinley Station. Very little of the crew was left three weeks after returning when Captain Gedna Tachion, along with Cazzarros and Lieutenant Blackbourne, took the ship to Utopia Planitia for a refit. ("New Orders")
At one point the idea of sending the vessel on a rendezvous with the USS Voyager was briefly entertained.
Several of the upgrades and refinements made to her before her deep space mission were incorporated on the rebuilt USS Yamaguchi, and the later subclass that kept the Ambassadors serving into the 25th century.
